FlexFranchise™ multi-concept brand licensing

Multi-concept brand licensing through FlexFranchise is built around a location you already run. You license more than one brand from our portfolio, assign each one to a daypart such as breakfast, lunch, dinner or late night, and change your signage and menu boards to show the brand being served.

How FlexFranchise works

Most foodservice locations present one brand and one menu all day. FlexFranchise is designed to let a location present a different licensed brand at different times of day, so the same kitchen and counter can take on a breakfast identity in the morning and another brand later on.

Choose brands from the portfolio

Operators choose which brands to license from Restaurant Licensing Group’s portfolio of federally registered food and beverage brands, and how to schedule them across the dayparts their location already serves. We share the registration record, brand overview and core menu for each brand you are considering.

Schedule brands by daypart

You decide which brand to present in each part of the day your location serves, and your hours stay your decision. Your license agreement sets out the brands and the locations it covers. Territory and any exclusivity are set out in that agreement.

Present each brand with digital signage and menus

When one daypart ends and the next begins, the location’s signage and menu boards switch to the brand scheduled for that period. Each brand comes with its own logo files, color references, style guide and food photography, which your team uses to present that brand during its daypart.

Who FlexFranchise is designed for

FlexFranchise is intended for experienced foodservice operators who already run a kitchen and understand its equipment, staffing and food-safety procedures. It is designed for locations that are already open and operating. Your team keeps responsibility for day-to-day operations, while each brand’s presentation follows its style guide. We talk through your current operation and the brands you are considering before you license anything.

Before you commit: a site checklist

A multi-brand location needs more planning than a single-brand one. These are the questions to settle for each site before you license a brand. The decisions on each one rest with your team:

  • Local sign codes. Exterior digital signage is regulated by local sign and zoning codes, for example limits on brightness, animation and how often content changes, so feasibility is reviewed for each site.
  • Equipment and menu overlap. Each brand’s core menu should fit the equipment you already have, or you should know in advance what would need to change.
  • Allergens and cross-contact. When several brands share a kitchen, your food-safety program needs to account for shared equipment and ingredients.
  • Delivery platforms. Delivery apps set their own rules for listing more than one brand from the same kitchen, so check each platform’s current policies.

Settings where multi-concept brand licensing can fit

Daypart scheduling suits a storefront or counter that stays open across more than one meal period. A hotel outlet that serves breakfast to overnight guests could present a different brand in the evening; the outlet types involved are covered under hotel and resort dining brands. Where campus retail dining runs from breakfast into the evening, a scheduled lineup of campus retail dining brands can be considered in the same way.

Other settings use the idea differently. A delivery-only kitchen has no storefront signage to change, but it may list more than one licensed brand at the same time, subject to each delivery app’s own rules; see virtual brands for delivery kitchens. Stadium and arena stands open around the event calendar rather than fixed meal periods, so stadium and arena concession brands can be planned stand by stand instead.

FlexFranchise questions

How do we decide which brand fits each daypart?

Start with the meal periods your location already serves and the equipment in your kitchen. We share each candidate brand’s core menu so your team can check it against your equipment, your staffing and the guests you see at that time of day. The schedule, and your hours, remain your decision.

Do we need new kitchen equipment?

It depends on the brands you choose and the kitchen you have. We review how each brand’s core menu overlaps with your existing equipment before you license anything, and any decision to add or change equipment stays with your team.

Can more than one brand run at the same time?

A location can present one brand at a time on its signage and menu boards, or offer more than one brand for pickup and delivery. What is allowed depends on your license agreement and, for delivery, on each platform’s own policies.

Is digital signage required?

The program is built around signage and menu content that change by daypart. What is practical at your site depends on your building and on local sign and zoning codes. Sign permits and approvals stay with your team and your local authority.

Can we combine FlexFranchise with brands we already run?

Tell us about your current brands and agreements. Whether a licensed brand can share your location depends on your existing agreements and on the license terms we agree with you.
